Know Your Therapist - A Little Bit More About Kumu Paʻa Julia Nālani Adams
/Putting hands on someone and sharing life stories is an intimate business, and of course you want to make sure you’re getting the best person who fits with you at an energetic and spiritual level as well as being Expert in what they do - I know I sure do…so get to know me. Read below and then go on over to the Testimonials Page and see what people like you have to say about their treatments and sessions…
…Whilst a senior organisational leader I re-trained as a Holistic Counsellor (and formalised my Coaching Experience) and discovered for myself the "gold" in exploring my own speedhumps and mindtraps. Later in Clinical Practice, I realised that whilst people may work through trials and trauma at a mind level, the residual effects often stayed held within the physical body.
My quest to learn how to help people release physical effects led me to reconnect with my Polynesian ancestry and the healing process of Traditional Old Style Hawaiian LomiLomi Massage. When I began massaging my clients in this way it helped to discharge the residual effects of life stories held in the body and restore health, wellness and mana on every level.
Wanting to go even further, I was eventually accepted as a Haumana - life long student of Kumu Pa'a Nui Lawrence Kalaini Kamani Aki, the 50th Generation of Teachers (Kumus) from Molokai Hawaii.
In April 2021 I was unikiʻd/elevated to the level of Kumu Paʻa - Teacher of the Foundation. A person achieves this recognition, not because they name themselves Kumu/Teacher, but because their Teacher decides they are at this level. And although weʻre studying and demonstraing our skills, knowledge and abilities, we never know who is watching and what conversations are going on in the background about us.
When the time for uniki comes, it is simply either “announced”, sprung on the hauamana without any prior knowledge and/or a series of activities and protocols start to take place - the haumana must recognise these in the moment and respond appropriately which also shows their readiness...
…and it kickstarts a whole other process…like Kapu Kai - one of the many sacred rituals marking the occasion…
Today I continue my studies weekly - and at least yearly on Molokai - with Kumu Paʻa Nui Lawrence in order to carry these deeply spiritual practices, teachings and understanding of the Universe forward. Kumu Lawrence continued learning with Anakala Pilipo Solatorio until he passed away - and of course, that relationship continues even though Anakala has returned to Pō.
