Giving, Receiving and Preserving Ancestral Knowledge for the Next Generations
Kumu Paʻa Julia Nālani 51st Generation Teacher, Healer & Lineage Holder from the Lineage of Kumu Paʻa Nui Lawrence Kalainia Kamani Aki 50th Generation of Halawa Valley Molokai Hawaii, teaches in the arena she has co-created with the Ancestors: SOHAD - the School of Spirituality, Healing & Development.
The heartbeat of the SoHAD, and her main focus for 2023 - 2025, is her own Hālau/Traditional School named by her Teacher Kumu Paʻa Nui Lawrence: Hālau Pō Me Nani: School of Hawaiian Spiritual Studies.
This name, given to Kumu Lawrence by the Ancestors, and as described to him from them, refers to the “splendour of Pō” the Place of Origin. Pō is the realm of the Poʻe Kahiko/Ancestors, ʻaumakua/Spiritual Guardians and the Akua/Gods and Goddesses. It describes for us the “sight” of Pō, who and what is available to us, the brilliance of their ʻike/knowledge, wisdom and brightness of the power of Aloha.
Kumu Nālani is acknowledged as an innovative leader in the field of adult learning and personal development and this shows in the way each course is carefully crafted, designed and taught. Her belief is everyone can learn our Cultural Practices, and as the Kumu her kuleana/responsibility is to find the best way to help you learn. Which is why each course is filled with a variety of ways to learn.
All of the Hālau Courses are recongised by our Lineage and also by IICT in 39 Countries around the world.
At the end of 2023 Kumu is launching a low-cost Membership Program for members only Talks and Development. This Lahui/gathering is for Practitioners, Seekers, former and current Haumāna/Students. We join each other as hoaaloha/friends to talk, learn ask questions and do the hana/inner work together in an informal way. Join the email list to know more.

The Schoolhouse is our main way of fundraising to fund projects dear to us. They’re a means for sharing the wisdom of the Kūpuna (Elders) with the community and ensuring healthy and sustainable communities.
Learning with Kumu helps to preserve the Teachings as well as fundraise and support other types of community projects around the world - for example in 2022 the Hālau Sponsored the ACF Greater Glider Program, and in 2023 the Hālau is supporting One Tree Planted - planting one tree for every enrolment.
Throught the broader offering of the SoHAD Kumu Julia Nālani uses her experitise to help other First Nations people to bring their courses to the public arena by providing course writing and learning resources guidance, mentoring and learning development. She can also write end-to-end programs with them. Is this you? Contact Kumu for help and more discussion.
